After a career in the Oil/Gas industry--Manufacturing/Supply Director of Mobil Oil Australia ( 1987-1994) and seven years based in the UK, the last three years with BP plc as Vice President --Technology, responsible for their worldwide refining and marketing technology. I returned to Melbourne at the end of 2000. Life is now rebalanced between International House, Chairing the Cooperative Research centre into Cochlear implants and Hearing Aid innovation, coaching senior executives, caring for a garden into which my wife and I invite sensory handicapped children, touring on a bicycle and being free to choose whatever else will expand the mind. My involvement in IH came not from a past association as an alumni, but from a passion gained from living internationally and appreciating the diversity of the world's many cultures. Further, to realise that whenever one enters a new country and it's cultural setting, one is, by definition ignorant. From that point on, learning and new joy can flourish. International House is an example of accelerating such awareness in the young adults from many countries, who will become significant influencers in their future careers wherever life takes them. It is a privilege to be associated with such a place. Professor Doris Young
