A number of festive dinners are organised by the House each year. Commencement Dinner marks the beginning of the academic year, while Scholars' Dinner honours the academic achievements of House residents. Winter Dinner is held at the beginning of semester two to welcome back residents from the mid-year break and the Valedictory Dinner recognises the contribution of those leaving the House or graduating from their degrees.
While the College year is generally busy with its range of academic, sporting and cultural events, special programs are also offered during the academic year. One of the programs on offer is a short course in Intercultural Communication.
Other programs have included business ethics, a women's leadership course, career options and interview skills for job-seekers. A program of guest speakers at High Table also provides special opportunities for residents to be exposed to different ideas and people. Some of our guest speakers have included Reverend Tim Costello, Chief Executive Officer, World Vision; Mr Julian Gardner, Public Advocate of Victoria, and IH alumnus; the Right Honourable Malcolm Fraser, Prime Minister Australia 1975 – 1983; Ms Sue Howard, Director of Radio, ABC; Mr Ian Renard, Chancellor of The University of Melbourne; and Deans of the University.
Enhancement, improvement and the quality of student life at International House is always paramount.
