Study Abroad/Exchange students

A unique Study Abroad/Exchange experience

Residential Colleges provide Study Abroad and Exchange (SAEX) students with a unique opportunity to live and interact with students from all over Australia and the world. SAEX students often benefit from living in a close-knit community where ongoing pastoral, academic and peer support can aid the transition into Australian life.

SAEX students interested in applying to a Residential College should research individual colleges carefully to get a feel for which College(s) they wish to apply, as each has its own unique character and atmosphere. When considering a Residential College, please bare in mind that college life is more structured than other accommodation options. It has organised meals (the cost is included in the fees) and a range of academic, cultural, social and sporting activities in which students are expected to participate.

Applying

If you are a Study Abroad or Exchange student and would like to apply to a Residential College , you must lodge an application online at OASIIS. http://oasiis.acs.unimelb.edu.au. Please do not apply to the Colleges directly.

OASIIS allows you to nominate four Colleges you would like to be considered for. The University of Melbourne will submit your application to the Colleges on your behalf.

Students who succeed in receiving a place will be sent an offer directly from the Residential College.

Please note that obtaining a college place is very competitive. On average, one in four Study Abroad and Exchange students who apply are successful in gaining a place. Where possible, attempts are made to place students in colleges of subsequent preference. Students who are not offered a place at a Residential College will be offered alternative housing off-campus.
