International House is a community of scholars which values academic achievement.
Tutorials are provided by the House in most subjects being undertaken by our first-year students and also for some second and third-year subjects. Tutorials are mandatory for all first-year students. They are generally an hour in duration and are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30 pm.
Most tutorials are provided by our sixteen residential tutors, many of whom are completing postgraduate studies or teaching within the University. Non-residential tutors are employed for those subjects which cannot be covered in-house. Residential tutors are also available for casual or informal consultations outside the scheduled tutorial times. There is no additional charge for tutorials or consultations.
At the beginning of each year, the House also runs a number of Study Skills tutorials which are designed to assist first-year students in their transition from secondary to tertiary study. Students receive advice on how to take effective lecture notes, improve reading skills, plan essays, improve concentration and other skills to help them make a positive start to their study at university.
First-year at university is not without its challenges but the excellent results achieved by first-year International House students are testament to the support provided by our tutorial program.
